High-Grade Research Facilities Supporting Medical Science |
 |
 |
As research facilities for common utilization, Moroyama Campus
has Biomedical Research Center and Medical Informatics Center,
while Saitama Medical Center has the First Research Pavilion.
All these facilities are for common utilization by the faculty
of Saitama Medical School. Built in order to make the basic researches
in the School most effective and productive, Biomedical Research
Center comprises four Divisions; i.e., Experimental Animal, RI,
Morphology, and Function.
Under supervision by the respective Division head, staff members
with topnotch techniques and knowledge engage in investigation
of diverse themes.
The Division of Experimental Animal feeds and supervises various
experimental animals, including common, germ-free, SPF, and infected
animals, as well as those for recombinant DNA experiments. In
the Division of RI, investigators perform diverse researches
utilizing isotopes (radioimmunoassay, autoradiography, etc.).
Division of Morphology is equipped with the transmission and
scanning electron microscopes for researches on the ultrastructure
at the cellular level including the molecular analysis. It has
also facilities for cell culture. In addition, there are high-performance
light-microscopes and laser-beam instruments which enable observation
of specific substances relative to their localization and motion
as well as analysis of gene and manifold cellular functions.
Division of Function houses the global system for analyzing protein;
i.e., those of PCR, SNP, determination of nucleotide sequence,
comprehensive analytical system spanning from electrophoresis
of proteins, through determination of amino acid sequence to
synthesis of peptides, and mass spectrometry system from low
to high molecular weight proteins (MALDI-TOF-MS analyzer; Matrix-assisted
laser desorption/ionization using time of flight mass spectrometry).
In sum, the Division is fully equipped with research armamentarium
for conducting recombinant DNA experiments, proteome/proteomix
analysis, and functional pharmacokinetics.
Informatics Center provides with computers for common usage for
education and research, and plays a central role for operation
and supervision of the Internet network within the campus by
means of LAN.
First Research Pavilion in Saitama Medical Center comprises five
divisions; i.e., facility for experimental animals, facility
for RI, facility for electron microscopy, room for centralized
assay and tissue culture, and facility for molecular immunology.
Active utilization of these facilities leads continuously to
high-quality research achievements, and serves as the groundwork
for the pioneering medical education and practice at Saitama
Medical School. |
