Core Facility
 ■Experimental Animal Laboratory (EAL)

This facility occupies a major part of the 1st floor of this Institute and can accommodate about 6,000 SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) mice which are required for studying gene functions in vivo. By targeting specific genes spacio-temporarily, researchers will be able to understand the function of the gene in the body and its role during development, differentiation and disease processes. Transgenic animals are also created and studied in this facility. Disease model mice are also preserved here.

The EAL is responsible for promise that all usage of animals are humane and comply with all relevant policies and legal requirements. The centralized animal care and use program at Saitama Medical University complies with federal, and local guidelines for laboratory animal care. The information provided here is to benefit our research community that use animals in teaching and conducting research. We welcome your comments and suggestions. Please contact us at following e-mail address (animal@saitama-med.ac.jp) for more information on items included on our web site or on any other animal related issues. Our goal is "Quality Animal Care Equals Quality Research"
